“Only the second vintage produced, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Pied de Baud was still in tank when I tasted it in June. It’s 100% Grenache, with delicate black tea, rose petal and raspberry aromas that are almost Burgundian. Yet it’s full-bodied and concentrated, delivering red berries and complex, minty notes on the palate. I love the style proprietor Gilles Gasq (former cellar assistant at Monpertuis) has achieved from this micro parcel (1.5 hectares) in Chateauneuf du Pape.”
